Softball Game Preview: Rantoul Eagles vs. Illinois Valley Central Grey Ghosts

The Rantoul Eagles will face off against the Illinois Valley Central Grey Ghosts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

On Friday, Rantoul didn't have quite enough to beat Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond and fell 4-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, Illinois Valley Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Canton.

Illinois Valley Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jensyn Gustafson, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Morgan Ellington was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Illinois Valley Central's defeat dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Rantoul, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.

Rantoul couldn't quite finish off Illinois Valley Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
