Football Recap: West Jordan Piles Up the Points Against Hillcrest

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Jordan). They breezed past the Hillcrest Huskies to the tune of 48-20 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won four games by 24 points or more so far this season.

West Jordan got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nia Ioapo out in front who picked up 109 receiving yards and two scores, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Those two receiving touchdowns gave Ioapo a new career-high. Porter Creasy did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 52 receiving yards.

West Jordan didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Hillcrest to a completion percentage of just 31.7%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from five players: Creasy, Anthony Fale, Mathew Boone, Gauge Eaton, and Jayden Giles, who each logged one passes deflected. West Jordan hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.33 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

West Jordan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Creasy, Eaton, and Evingi (L.A.) Moala picked up one apiece. Moala is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made eight or more in each of the last five games he's played.

Hillcrest's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was K'Von Houston, who threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 85 yards on only ten carries. Kobe Batimana was in the mix too, providing the Huskies with two scores.

West Jordan's record now sits at 5-2. As for Hillcrest, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. West Jordan is set to square off against their familiar foe West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 949 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Hillcrest will face off against rival Cyprus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
