Recap: Phillipsburg Stateliners vs. Freedom Patriots
The Phillipsburg Stateliners had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They ended the year with a bang, routing Freedom 56-33. That 56-33 margin sets a new team best for Phillipsburg this season.
Leading Phillipsburg to victory were Andrew Martin and Matthew Scerbo Jr.. Martin scored 19 points, while Scerbo Jr. scored 25 points along with five assists. The contest was Martin's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayveon Jackson, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Phillipsburg pushed their record up to 4-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Freedom, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phillipsburg won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Easton Area at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Easton Area will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 431st in Pennsylvania, while Phillipsburg is ranked 57th in New Jersey). As for Freedom, they will head out on the road to face off against Bethlehem Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
