Recap: St. Francis Knights vs. Mount Vernon Mustangs
The St. Francis Knights pushed their score all the way to 68 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Mount Vernon 72-68. St. Francis has struggled against Mount Vernon recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why St. Francis lost, one person who can't be blamed is Greg Howard. Despite the final result, he scored 33 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Howard has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Javon Holt, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
It was another big night for Kj Garris, who scored 28 points for Mount Vernon. Garris hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Pace Bottoms, who scored 15 points.
St. Francis dropped their record down to 10-9 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Mount Vernon, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.
St. Francis will head out on the road to face off against King's Ridge Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mount Vernon, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mt. Bethel Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Mt. Bethel Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matches.
