Softball Game Preview: Stringer Red Devils vs. West Jones Mustangs

Stringer and West Jones are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Stringer Red Devils will challenge the West Jones Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Stringer took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over Harrison Central. The one-run effort marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The result came thanks to Madilyn Graham's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Stringer saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Preslee Cook, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Cook hit this season.

Meanwhile, West Jones was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 18-2 to DeSoto Central.

Stringer now has a winning record of 3-2. As for West Jones, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Stringer was able to grind out a solid victory over West Jones in their previous meeting on Tuesday, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Stringer since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
