Baseball Recap: Columbia Extends Winning Streak to Four

Columbia extended their winning streak to four on Monday, bumping their season record up to 11-8 in the process. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders a 2-0 shutout. Give the Crimson Tide's pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Not much got past Peyton Gilbert, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Lancaster Catholic off the board. Gilbert also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Columbia is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Columbia saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Musser, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Lancaster Catholic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Lancaster Catholic's side, Drew Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks.

Coming up, Columbia will venture away from home to square off against York Suburban at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lancaster Catholic, they will square off against Wyomissing at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
