Glendora is 2-8 against Ayala since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Glendora Tartans will square off against the Ayala Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Glendora was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Duarte, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tartans have posted since March 27, 2024.
Gianna Messick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Morgan Gonzalez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Kennedy Bowers was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Glendora was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ayala, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They never let Upland get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Monday.
The result came thanks to Lilanna Acosta's shutout, as she gave up just four hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024.
Glendora's win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-3. As for Ayala, their record now sits at 5-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Glendora hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Ayala struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Glendora might still be hurting after the 14-2 loss they got from Ayala in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Glendora avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
