Mercy McAuley needed a changed in momentum after dropping three straight matches and they got it from Aubrey Blanton. The Wolves put the hurt on Summit Country Day with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday with plenty of help from Blanton, who had ten digs and two aces. She has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last three times she's played.
Mercy McAuley's got stronger as the match went on, holding Summit Country Day to fewer and fewer points set over set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-17.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Bishop Fenwick took on Notre Dame Academy on Saturday. The Falcons came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 2-0. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.
Bishop Fenwick easily took the first set, but they let things get interesting in the other. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-9, 25-20.
Bishop Fenwick found their leader in sophomore Emerson Moser, who had four digs and three aces.
Bishop Fenwick was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in seven consecutive matches.
Mercy McAuley's record now sits at 7-14. As for Bishop Fenwick, their record is now 15-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Mercy McAuley has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Bishop Fenwick struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Mercy McAuley's way against Bishop Fenwick in their previous matchup back in September of 2020, as Mercy McAuley made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
