Dylan Varnell turned in yet another pitching appearance with fewer than two walks surrendered on Tuesday. He produced his best game of the campaign: he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Madison-Ridgeland Academy is 5-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 8-9 otherwise.

Even though Varnell couldn't lead Madison-Ridgeland Academy over Jackson Academy, he won't have to wait long to try again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots are 9-1 against the Raiders going back to May of 2022, a lead they'll look to extend.
