Basketball Recap: Ellis Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Caleb Noble-Heit and Jaren Frickey

Ellis lost against Oakley back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Ellis Railroaders took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oakley Plainsmen.

Despite the defeat, Ellis had strong showings from Jaren Frickey, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 17 points, and Caleb Noble-Heit, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 11 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Aiden Aschenbrenner, who posted four points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Ellis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Carsen Beal had an outrageously good game for Oakley as he scored 14 points in addition to eight boards and six assists. The dominant performance gave Beal a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Manuel Mancia, who had eight points.

Ellis' loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Oakley, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.

Looking ahead, Ellis will take on Hoxie at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Hoxie's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Oakley, they will square off against Thomas More Prep-Marian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
