Basketball Recap: Hammond Morton Takes a Loss

Hammond Morton played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 86-65 to the Portage Indians. The Governors have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Hammond Morton still got an impressive performance from Dashawn Woods, who shot 58% from the field on his way to 16 points. What's more, Woods also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was LeBron Hill, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Portage had a senior duo take command as Garrett Clark dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten boards and O'Mari Evans went 9-for-14 en route to 25 points and three steals. Thanks to that strong game, Evans now owns an excellent 41.9% three-point shooting accuracy. Sam Wellman was another key player, putting up seven points and five assists.

Hammond Morton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-17. As for Portage, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Hammond Morton and Portage are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Hammond Morton will challenge Crown Point at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Crown Point will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Hammond Morton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Portage, they will take on Chesterton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Portage has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
