Recap: Monroe County Tigers vs. Hillcrest Jaguars
The Monroe County Tigers lost against the Hillcrest Jaguars back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Monroe County fell 64-52 to Hillcrest. While losing is never fun, Monroe County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Hillcrest is ranked 68th).
Robert Simpson was his usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-5 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds for Hillcrest. The matchup was Simpson's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jermonte Stallworth , who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and eight assists.
Monroe County has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Hillcrest, they pushed their record up to 11-3 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Monroe County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jackson at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Hillcrest will be home for the holidays to greet Andalusia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
