The Zionsville Eagles will square off against the Avon Orioles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Zionsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Zionsville took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past University 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 28th.
Jack Virkus looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Liam Salapka was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Tyler Hughes was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avon). They were the clear victors by a 15-8 margin over McCutcheon on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Orioles, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Isaac Kramer looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
At the plate, Brayden Salyer and Wyatt Pennington did most of the damage at the plate: Salyer went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Pennington went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Clayton Lenz, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Zionsville has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Avon, they pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Zionsville skirted past Avon 6-5 in their previous matchup back in April. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Orioles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
