Football Game Preview: Lake View Chiefs/Maidens vs. Big Spring Steers

The Lake View Chiefs/Maidens will head out on the road to square off against the Big Spring Steers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake View knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Big Spring likes a good challenge.

On Thursday, Lake View really took it to Pecos for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-14 victory. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Chiefs/Maidens had established a 21-point advantage.

Izaiah Rios was his usual excellent self, rushing for 172 yards and one TD on only 12 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 101 rushing yards.

Lake View didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Evan Gallegos and Roman Garcia.

Meanwhile, Big Spring came up short against Andrews on Friday and fell 28-20. The Steers haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Lake View pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.3 points over those games. As for Big Spring, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3-1.

Lake View couldn't quite get it done against Big Spring in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 as they fell 28-21. Can the Chiefs/Maidens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
