Softball Recap: Southwestern Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Southwestern's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Monroe County Falcons with a sharp 9-3 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.

Jayla Singleton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Southwestern got a massive performance out of Macie Gwin, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Halle Norvell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Southwestern pushed their record up to 17-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-18-1 record this season.

Southwestern will challenge Perry County Central at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Monroe County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
