Baseball Recap: Olathe Find Success

Olathe won the last time they faced Rangely and things went their way on Saturday too. The Pirates walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Panthers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Jack Combs and Jeyden Estrada made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Combs struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Estrada struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Combs went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Estrada went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Estrada is becoming a predictor of Olathe's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 8-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bridger Vincent, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Olathe: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Bryce Good was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Olathe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Olathe's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Rangely, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Olathe will host Cedaredge at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Rangely, they will challenge Moffat County at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a 17-game losing streak.
