Basketball Recap: Midlothian Trojans vs. Manchester Lancers
Midlothian lost against Manchester back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Midlothian Trojans were dealt a 72-18 loss at the hands of the Manchester Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while the Lancers are ranked 19th).
Leading Manchester to victory were Rayne Wright and Madison Smith. Wright posted 16 points along with seven assists and seven boards, while Smith went 7-for-10 to rack up 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. Those five assists gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keileen Edwards, who put up eight points along with five boards and four steals.
Midlothian's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Manchester, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Looking ahead, Midlothian will look to defend their home court on Monday against Huguenot at 7:30 p.m. Huguenot has insisted on making their last three contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 0-3 during that stretch of close contests. As for Manchester, they are taking a road trip to square off against Richmond City School of the Arts at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
