Preview: Germantown Mavericks vs. Canton Tigers
The Germantown Mavericks will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Canton Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Germantown is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Last Saturday, Germantown came up short against Parkway and fell 45-38. While losing is never fun, Germantown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 97th in Mississippi, while Parkway is ranked 21st in Louisiana).
Despite the defeat, Germantown had strong showings from Charlie Gamberine, who scored 9 points, and Ayla Benson, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Canton didn't have too much trouble with Ridgeland at home on Tuesday as they won 62-43. The win made it back-to-back wins for Canton.
Germantown now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Canton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Germantown took their victory against Canton in their previous matchup back in December of 2019 by a conclusive 42-18. Will Germantown repeat their success, or does Canton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
