Recap: Creede Miners vs. Sierra Grande Panthers

The Creede Miners suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. Their tough 82-56 defeat to Sierra Grande might stick with them for a while. Creede was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-29.

Several Miners players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lyric Stecken, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stecken has scored all season. Will Roden was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with three blocks.

Sierra Grande was led to victory by Brian Ontiveros and Jadyn Martinez. Ontiveros scored 24 points, while Martinez scored 24 points along with three steals. Ontiveros is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Manuel Miranda, who scored 14 points along with three steals.

Creede has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for Sierra Grande, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Creede won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Moffat at 6:30 p.m. on January 27th. Moffat knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Creede likes a good challenge. As for Sierra Grande, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Antonito at 6:30 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Antonito focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Saturday.
