Preview: Perkins Pirates vs. Vermilion Sailors

After two games on the road, Perkins is heading back home. They will take on The Vermilion Sailors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Perkins knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Vermilion likes a good challenge.

Perkins stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Columbian 55-28 on the road. Given Perkins' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Columbian is ranked 50th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Perkins' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Bunts, who rushed for 248 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Bunts was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Lesch, who threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Vermilion's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 20-0 defeat at the hands of Bellevue. That's two games in a row now that Vermilion has lost by exactly 20 points.

Perkins' victory was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.3 points. As for Vermilion, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Everything came up roses for Perkins against Vermilion in their previous matchup back in August of 2020 as the team secured a 51-20 win. Does Perkins have another victory up their sleeve, or will Vermilion turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
