Baseball Game Preview: Roosevelt Mustangs vs. Corona Panthers

Roosevelt hasn't had much luck against Corona recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs will host the Panthers at 4:00 p.m.

Friday just wasn't the day for Roosevelt's offense. They came up short against Norco on Friday, falling 18-0.

Roosevelt saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Benavides, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Nikolas Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Corona got the win against Centennial on Friday by a conclusive 9-3. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Anakin Tolman got the start for Corona and what a start it was: he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Tolman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Anthony Murphy, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most home runs he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Trey Ebel, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.

Corona lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Centennial didn't launched any.

The victory made it two in a row for Corona and bumps their season record up to 15-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.
