Basketball Game Preview: St. Petersburg Green Devils vs. Dunedin Falcons

The St. Petersburg Green Devils will head out to square off against the Dunedin Falcons at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. St. Petersburg is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season.

On Tuesday, St. Petersburg was fully in charge, breezing past Northeast 54-16. The Green Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 35 points or more this season.

St. Petersburg found their leader in freshman Shaw Summer, who went 8 for 12 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Summer is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last five games she's played. Quay Curry was another key player, putting up six points.

Meanwhile, Dunedin took a blow against Clearwater on Tuesday, falling 76-14. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while the Tornadoes are ranked 118th).

St. Petersburg's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Dunedin, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Everything came up roses for St. Petersburg against Dunedin in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, as the squad secured a 62-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Petersburg since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
