Basketball Recap: Elliot Christian Takes a Loss

Elliot Christian extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were beaten by the Lodi Academy Titans 73-40. The Eagles were down 54-26 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Elliot Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryant Byrd, who posted nine points and six steals. Another player making a difference was James Lappe, who had 13 points and three steals.

As for Lodi Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Zack Kanas was nothing short of spectacular: he dropped a double-double with ten points and 16 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Pandjaitan, who earned eight points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds.

Elliot Christian will take on Rio Vista in a holiday battle at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lodi Academy and Vanguard College Prep will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
