Basketball Preview: Chapel Hill Red Devils vs. Mineola Yellowjackets
The Chapel Hill Red Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Mineola Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chapel Hill will be looking to extend their current 26-game winning streak.
Chapel Hill stacked a 21st blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Winnsboro 64-33 at home. Given Chapel Hill's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Raiders are ranked 586th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Braden Buchanan, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below three steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaydyn Haley, who scored seven points along with nine assists and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mineola came up short against the Raiders on Tuesday and fell 52-45. Mineola has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Chapel Hill pushed their record up to 29-1 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.5 points per game. As for Mineola, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.
Chapel Hill strolled past the Yellowjackets in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 53-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chapel Hill since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
