Softball Recap: Oxnard Takes a Loss

Oxnard extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 16-7-1 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lompoc Braves. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Shyanne Saxton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Haros, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

As for Lompoc, their win bumped their record up to 13-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 9th.

On Lompoc's side, Lily Drysol made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Drysol has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other pitching news, Alex Brooks looked comfortable as she pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, Lompoc got a big performance out of Rianna Stouppe, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Stouppe is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gabi Arias, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Oxnard will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Rio Mesa at 3:30 p.m. As for Lompoc, they will head out on the road to square off against Cabrillo at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
