Football Recap: Kennedy Catholic Gaels vs. Peru Nighthawks
The Kennedy Catholic Gaels had to suffer through a 35-7 loss at the hands of the Peru Nighthawks. While losing is never fun, the Gaels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while the Nighthawks are ranked 164th).
KJ Dillon threw for 121 yards and one touchdown on only ten passes. Clifton Delatorre was his top target, picking up 64 receiving yards and one TD.
Leading Peru to victory were Brody Blaise-Smith and Jake Frechette. Blaise-Smith rushed for 129 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries, while Frechette threw for 263 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Frechette a new career-high in passer rating (160.4). A healthy portion of Frechette's aerial production (80 yards to be exact) went to Chase Carpenter, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Kennedy Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Kennedy Catholic and Peru will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Gaels will square off against rival Holy Cross at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Peru is set to take on their familiar foe Ticonderoga at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
