Basketball Recap: Provine Comes Up Short

Provine fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Natchez on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Natchez Bulldogs by a score of 62-59. The Rams just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Natchez's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daylan Haywood led the charge by going 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 34 points and three steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Haywood has scored at least a third of Natchez's points. The team also got some help courtesy of William Johnson, who went 7 for 15 en route to 19 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Provine's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Natchez, they moved to 14-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Provine wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 74-34 defeat against South Jones on the 28th. As for Natchez, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-42 loss against Florence on the 25th.
