League recap: Waller stuns Rudder in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Waller, who took down 649th ranked Rudder, 44-14.

Magnolia West was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in 4A Region III District 18. Magnolia West vanquished Magnolia 21-20 earlier in the week.

Brenham's dynamic duo of Walter Thomas and Kwadareus Chapel proved tough for Montgomery to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Thomas threw for 152 yards and one touchdown and Chapel had 128 yards receiving. Malik Wilson helped Brenham's passing attack out by catching one ball for 17 yards.

Tre Guyton was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 166 yards as the Rangers defeated the Bears.

Willis's Lofton Bean and Dillon Bauer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Bean has thrown for 831 yards this season, while Bauer, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 18 catches for 305 yards. Rudder's Guyton leads the league in rushing yards with 1198.

A big matchup in 4A Region III District 18 this week will be when Huntsville takes on Shawn Bell's team. The Hornets are currently in second, while Magnolia West is in fourth.

There should be lots of points scored when Brenham and C.M. Pier's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Glen West's team comes in having scored 179 this season, while the Rangers have scored 175. The Cubs scored 23 points last week as they beat Montgomery.

The Bulldogs moved up to 639 from 806 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Waller climbed the ranks as a result of topping Rudder 44-14.
