AURORA, Colo. - After four lead changes,
Grandview (Aurora, Colo.) took the lead for good when
Tanner Gentry ran for a touchdown with 11:00 remaining in the fourth quarter and held on to upset
Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village, Colo.) 39-30 on Saturday.
The Bruins pulled ahead on a touchdown, and subsequently went into halftime leading 27-21. The Wolves scored the winning points with a Gentry touchdown run that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring seven points in the third, Grandview still trailed by 2 points going into the fourth quarter. But 11 points in the fourth helped GHS pull out the victory.
Reece Weber played well for the Aurora school in the victory. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
Team Team played well for Cherry Creek. He ran for three touchdowns and kicked one field goal and three extra points. His performance brought his touchdown total to five on the year.
CC came in allowing just 15.7 points per game this season. The Greenwood Village school struggled against the Wolves' offense, which entered the game scoring 26.0 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Grandview came away with a 28-7 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Cherry Creek, which notched a 35-7 victory over Smoky Hill in its previous outing. The win was a nice bounce back for GHS, which lost to Cherokee Trail last week, 24-9.
In a 5A Centennial game next week Grandview (5-3) takes on Smoky Hill, and Cherry Creek (5-3) will go up against Eaglecrest also in a 5A Centennial game.
