Baseball Recap: Umatilla Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

While Umatilla didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Catlin Gabel Eagles with a sharp 14-3 win on Saturday. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Vikings this season.

Umatilla got a big performance out of Xzavier Rodriguez, who scored two runs and stole three bases. Brian Younger-Morris also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Umatilla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

The victory (which was Umatilla's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Catlin Gabel, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Umatilla is taking a road trip to challenge Sherman at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Catlin Gabel, they will square off against Rainier at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Columbians at the right time seeing as the Columbians are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
