Baseball Recap: Watervliet Comes Up Short

If Watervliet was riding high fresh off their 11-2 takedown of Corinth on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cannoneers fell just short of the Rensselaer Rams by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Cannoneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Anthony Pastore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Watervliet saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Kelly, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Kelly is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Watervliet's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Rensselaer, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Coming up, Watervliet will venture away from home to square off against Chatham at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rensselaer, they will welcome Berlin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
