Baseball Game Preview: Woods Cross Wildcats vs. Viewmont Vikings

Woods Cross and Viewmont are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Vikings at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Woods Cross will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

While Woods Cross' victory against Box Elder wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Bees on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 22nd.

Not much got past Heston White, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Box Elder off the board. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for White.

On the hitting side, Woods Cross' win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Max Moffat, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Moffat is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played.

Meanwhile, Viewmont didn't have quite enough to beat Bonneville on Wednesday and fell 3-1.

Woods Cross' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Viewmont, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-9.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Woods Cross has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Viewmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Woods Cross came up short against Viewmont in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 11-8. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
