Basketball Game Preview: Poquoson Islanders vs. Prince Edward County Eagles

Poquoson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They took down Amelia County 63-47. The Islanders' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Prince Edward County put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They beat Southampton by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 105-9. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Indians are ranked 390th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Prince Edward County pushed their record up to 25-0 with the victory, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.9 points over those games. As for Poquoson, the win got them back to even at 10-10.

Poquoson didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Prince Edward County when the teams last played back in February of 2020, but they still walked away with a 41-35 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Poquoson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
