Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders vs. Fairmont Firebirds

The Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders will take on the Fairmont Firebirds at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairmont took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Archbishop Moeller, who comes in off a win.

Archbishop Moeller is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Ohio's top teams: Olentangy Berlin, who was ranked tenth at the time (Archbishop Moeller was ranked third). The Fighting Crusaders skirted past the Bears 6-4. Six seems to be a good number for the Fighting Crusaders as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Meanwhile, Fairmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Miamisburg. Firebirds fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Vikings since on Monday.

Tyler Mastro put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Mastro wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Skyler Slifer, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Archbishop Moeller is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Fairmont, their loss dropped their record down to 13-12.

Everything went Archbishop Moeller's way against Fairmont when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Archbishop Moeller made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Fighting Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Firebirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
