Basketball Game Preview: Providence Day Chargers vs. Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles

The Providence Day Chargers will head out on the road to square off against the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Providence Day sitting on five straight wins and Rabun Gap-Nacoochee on ten.

Last Saturday, Providence Day really took it to Charlotte Catholic for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-33 victory. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Cougars are ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ginny Anne Dumont was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and ten steals. Her afternoon made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Clark, who posted seven points and four steals.

Charlotte Country Day School typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Rabun Gap-Nacoochee proved too difficult a challenge. They enjoyed a cozy 57-41 win over the Buccaneers.

Providence Day pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.

Providence Day took their victory against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 41-15. The rematch might be a little tougher for Providence Day since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
