The McDonald Blue Devils will venture away from home to square off against the Girard Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
McDonald might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-1 to Crestview, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
McDonald saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miley Titus, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Girard). They never let McKinley get on the board and left with a 22-0 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won four matchups by 14 runs or more so far this season.
Brooklyn Broll made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Riley Collins was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season. Ava Serrano was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Girard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McKinley only posted an OBP of .250.
The win made it two in a row for Girard and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for McDonald, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
McDonald suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to Girard in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
