Basketball Recap: Laney Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jordan Mosley and Colin Lamb

Laney lost against Hoggard back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Laney Buccaneers took a 47-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hoggard Vikings. The contest marked the Buccaneers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Laney had strong showings from Colin Lamb, who went 8-for-18 en route to 18 points and three steals, and Jordan Mosley, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Lamb continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Hoggard's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Will Seward led the charge by going 5-for-7 on his way to 11 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks. Seward is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 12 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lawson Brown, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 14 points and six boards.

Laney's defeat dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Hoggard, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.

Laney does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hoggard, they will face off against New Hanover at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. New Hanover knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 26 contests -- so hopefully Hoggard likes a good challenge.
