Basketball Recap: Morenci Triumphs

Morenci posted their closest win since January 23, 2024 on Monday. They skirted past the Round Valley Elks 54-51. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Elks are ranked 289th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Round Valley lost, don't look at Brennan Brown. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Brown has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Reed, who posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Morenci Wildcats face off against the Benson Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Round Valley, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Monument Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Round Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
