Baseball Recap: Western Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Western waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Carroll Cougars. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.

Gavin Denton made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Denton was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other pitching news, Ashton Castillo looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Kyler Norman and Braydon Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Norman went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Miller went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Miller's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cal Berryman, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Western always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Western's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. As for Carroll, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western will welcome Logansport at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carroll, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tri-Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
