Football Game Preview: Spruce Mountain Phoenix vs. Mt. Ararat Eagles

The Spruce Mountain Phoenix will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Mt. Ararat Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Spruce Mountain is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past Lake Region, posting a 44-8 win. Winning may never get old, but the Phoenix sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Spruce Mountain's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Dylan Jewett, who rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and Owen Kelvey, who gained 199 total yards and a touchdown. Jewett has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Levi Richards was another key player, picking up 30 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Spruce Mountain was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 226 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Spruce Mountain didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Richards, Kelvey, and Mason Harlow picked up one apiece.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Mt. Ararat on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Yarmouth out of the water with a 44-14 final score. The Eagles pushed the score to 30-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Clippers had little chance of recovering from.

Spruce Mountain's record is now 7-1. As for Mt. Ararat, their record now sits at 8-1.
