Softball Recap: Kern Valley Snags Ninth Victory in Last 12 Games

It's playoff time, and Kern Valley had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Kings Christian Crusaders a 24-0 shutout on Friday. The Broncs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by eight runs or more this season.

Sam Wyly made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jade Montes, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Kenadie Young was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Kern Valley is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Kings Christian, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 7-14.

Looking ahead, Kern Valley will square off against Desert at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kings Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
