Baseball Recap: Lely Takes a Loss

Lely extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-6. They lost 13-0 to the Barron Collier Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 16-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.

Lely saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arturo Jaime, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Barron Collier, the victory got them back to even at 4-4. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Barron Collier's side, they got a great performance from Owen Owler as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Owler a new career-high.

At the plate, Alan Overmyer and Casey Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Overmyer got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Johnson got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Johnson is becoming a predictor of Barron Collier's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Logan Waite, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Lely will face off against Naples Classical at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Barron Collier, they are taking a road trip to square off against IMG Academy Gray at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 4, the Ascenders 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
