Pomperaug fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Shepaug Valley on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 9-8. On the bright side, the eight- run effort marked the Panthers' highest-scoring contest to date.

Dom Creaco was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season. Noah Pane was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs and one double.

Pomperaug dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Shepaug Valley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Pomperaug wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 9-7 victory against Abbott RVT on the 19th. As for Shepaug Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-0 win against Gilbert on the 21st.
