Softball Game Preview: Rock Ridge Phoenix vs. Dominion Titans

The Rock Ridge Phoenix are taking a road trip to challenge the Dominion Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rock Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Rock Ridge took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Wednesday. They put the hurt on Handley with a sharp 14-1 win. The Phoenix haven't had any issues with the Judges recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Sahasra Abbineni made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyra Young, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Grayson Andrews was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Dominion was not able to break out of their rough patch back in April as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They came up short against Potomac Falls, falling 16-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Titans have suffered against the Panthers since March 13, 2018.

Dominion's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Rock Ridge, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 5-7.

Rock Ridge might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Dominion in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Phoenix avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
