Baseball Recap: Eastern Wayne Takes a Loss

Eastern Wayne extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-16 in the process. They came up short against the North Johnston Panthers, falling 15-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for North Johnston, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by ten runs or more this season.

For North Johnston's part, Daniel Turner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Turner has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty Hinton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cooper Hall, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Eastern Wayne is set to take on their familiar foe Goldsboro at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, North Johnston will square off against rival Princeton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 2.8, the Bulldogs 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
