Basketball Game Preview: East Grand Vikings vs. Katahdin Cougars

East Grand hasn't had much luck against Katahdin recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The East Grand Vikings will head out to challenge the Katahdin Cougars at 6:00 p.m.

Last Friday, East Grand was beaten by Madawaska 82-25. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Owls are ranked 11th).

Meanwhile, Katahdin had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 64-28 victory over the Warriors. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 30 points or more this season.

Katahdin's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points per game. As for East Grand, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

East Grand took a serious blow against Katahdin in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 83-10. Can East Grand avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
