Softball Recap: Murphysboro Has No Trouble Against Massac County

After only two runs in their last contest, Murphysboro made sure to put some runs up on the board against Massac County on Saturday. The Red Devils blew past the Patriots 15-3. That looming 15-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Red Devils yet this season.

Blaire Fox made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Macey Alexander, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Macie Cunningham, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Murphysboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Murphysboro's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10. As for Massac County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
