Basketball Recap: North Star Beats Ligonier Valley for Their Fifth Straight Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but North Star ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They snuck past the Ligonier Valley Rams with a 73-67 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Cougars who have now won five matchups in a row.

North Star had a senior duo take command as Andy Retassie dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds and Ethan Smith dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Retassie has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Noah Maurer, who posted 11 points.

North Star smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

North Star is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Ligonier Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Star will take on Blacklick Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Blacklick Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season. Ligonier Valley has already played their next matchup (against Greensburg Salem), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
