It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Foothill ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the McKinleyville Panthers 5-4. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Will Baker, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Connor Modesitt, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Foothill's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for McKinleyville, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.

The future could be bright for both Foothill and McKinleyville: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Cougars will try to hand Red Bluff their third-straight loss when the two meet at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, McKinleyville will look to extend Fortuna's three-game losing streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
