Basketball Recap: Gadsden Takes a Loss

Gadsden lost against Mayfield back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Gadsden Panthers took a blow against the Mayfield Trojans, falling 61-29. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Trojans are ranked fifth).

Mayfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ceanna Mckines, who posted 11 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Lorrena Viarreal, who had 11 points and five assists.

Gadsden is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11. As for Mayfield, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Gadsden Panthers face off against the Alamogordo Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gadsden is facing Alamogordo at the right time seeing as Alamogordo is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mayfield, they will face off against Organ Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
